Jarred Merrill nailed the trey with 1 second to go and gave Champville the crucial win in OT, at Sagesse.
“I can’t even explain it, because we lost five games with 3 points or less,” said an out-of-breath Merrill. “Crucial, crucial to win!”
Rallying his team with a huge comeback in the fourth quarter, Merrill paved the way for an exciting final two minutes of regulation.
The guests did in the fourth quarter what they couldn’t do all game. They shot a massive 60% from the field and held Sagesse to 14 points, to force the contest into overtime.
Champville’s players started the extra minutes with a 7-2 run, but couldn’t stop their opponents from scoring. They let Sagesse in the game and needed Merrill’s 3 at the dying seconds to seal the win, 95-93.
Merrill finished the night with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
His teammate Kevin Jolley grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 8 points in 27 minutes.
Sagesse’s Rony Fahed who started off the game on fire, posted 12 first quarter points and finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists.
Sagesse, who wasted its 13-point lead at the break, went down for the second consecutive time, and for the third time this season.
